Government Announces Mandatory Sprinkler Systems for High-Rise Buildings
On 2 April 2020, Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick MP announced sweeping reforms to the UK’s building safety system — the most significant changes in a generation — to ensure residents are safe in their homes. Among the new measures are the introduction of mandatory sprinkler systems and consistent wayfinding signage in all new high-rise blocks of flats over 11 metres tall.
In addition, the government’s construction expert, David Hancock, has been appointed to review the national progress of removing unsafe ACM cladding from affected buildings.
These reforms are designed to incentivise compliance and enable stronger enforcement powers, including potential prosecution for those failing to meet the new standards. This marks a critical step forward in improving fire safety and accountability across the UK’s construction and property sectors.
Eversafe Fire Protection provides nationwide installation, inspection, and maintenance support for all types of sprinkler systems — helping property owners and developers stay compliant with the latest building safety regulations.
